Portraits

Portraits is a collaboration featuring songs and poems by Monster Michigan and the stunning, ethereal collages of Rebecca Byington.

A Night at the Movies

His hand warm against her knee
Brushing the ruffled hem of her skirt
She makes no move to remove it, sits very still
And revels in the acceleration of her heartbeat
Keeps face forward

His eyes move over to hers
Partially masked
Behind red and green tinted sunglasses

Baby, I’m seeing stars

Her lips part
His hand warm against her thighs
The place where her roads converge
At the drive in
Everything that happens beneath the windshield is private
A secret between passengers

Never Enough

I want my face to shine with sky
Planetary points like freckles in the night
I want my body to be my own
Hollow it out and set it alight
Until I see myself underneath

I’m never enough
I’m never enough
I’m never enough
There’s just too much of me
There’s too much
But never enough…

I want my curls to stretch out like seas
Echoes of stagnant infinities
Will you sail out to me?
Your starlet, your celebrity
So I’m not alone

I’m never enough
I’m never enough
I’m never enough
There’s just too much of me
There’s too much
But never enough…

Will you sail out to meet me
So I know I’m not alone?
Will you sail out to meet me
So I can be whole

I want my face to shine with sky
Hollow it out and set it alight
I want my body to be my own
So I know I’m not alone
